Differentiate:

y=\cos(-x)

Solution

This function can be differentiated by using the chain rule:

y'=-\sin(-x)\cdot-1=\sin(-x)=-\sin(x)

It can be done even faster. From trigonometry we know:

y=\cos(-x)=\cos(x)

and this function is in the list of standard functions:

y'=-\sin(x)
