Differentiate:

$y=1-2\sin^2(\frac{1}{2}x)$

Solution

This function is not in the list of standard functions. However, we can simplify the function by applying one of the double angle formulas:

$\cos(x)=1-2\sin^2(\frac{1}{2}x)$

and thus we get:

$y'=-\sin(x)$
