Assignment 10

Differentiate:

$y=\sin^2(x)+\cos^2(x)$

Solution

We can differentiate this function by applying the following:

$\sin^2(x)=\sin(x)\sin(x)$

$\cos^2(x)=\cos(x)\cos(x)$

and to apply the product rule twice.

It is a lot easier to use the following formula from trigonometry:

$\sin^2(x)+\cos^2(x)=1$

and thus:

$y'=0$
