Differentiate:

$y=5(6\cos^2(\frac{1}{2}x)-3)$

Solution

We apply the following double angle formula:

$\cos(x)=2\cos^2(\frac{1}{2}x)-1$

and thus the original function can be rewritten as follows:

$y=5\cdot3\cos(x)$

The derivative of this function is:

$y'=-15\sin(x)$
