Try to solve by factorizing:

$-3x^2-21x-36=0$

Solution

In this equation $a\neq1$ , but both sides of the equation can be divided by $-3$ , giving the equation:

$x^2+7x+12=0$

Next we have to find $p$ and $q$ such that:

$pq=12$ and $p+q=7$

The following values will do:

$p=4$ and $q=3$

Thus the equation can be written as:

$(x+4)(x+3)=0$

and thus the solutions are:

$x=-4$ or $x=-3$
