Assignment 10

Differentiate:

y=\sin^2(x)+\cos^2(x)

Solution

We can differentiate this function by applying the following:

\sin^2(x)=\sin(x)\sin(x)

\cos^2(x)=\cos(x)\cos(x)

and to apply the product rule twice.

It is a lot easier to use the following formula from trigonometry:

\sin^2(x)+\cos^2(x)=1

and thus:

y'=0
