Try to solve by factorization:

$x^2+2x-35=0$

Solution

We have to find $p$ and $q$ such that:

$pq=-35$ and $p+q=2$

The following values will do:

$p=7$ and $q=-5$

Thus the equation can be written as:

$(x+7)(x-5)=0$

and thus the solutions are:

$x=-7$ or $x=5$
