Try to solve by factorizing:

$3x^2+3x-6=0$

Solution

In this equation $a\neq1$ , but both sides can be divided by $3$ , yielding the equation:

$x^2+x-2=0$

Next we have to find $p$ and $q$ such that:

$pq=-2$ and $p+q=1$

The following values will do:

$p=2$ and $q=-1$

Thus the equation can be written as:

$(x+2)(x-1)=0$

and thus the solutions are:

$x=-2$ or $x=1$
