Assignment 7

Draw the graph of f(x)=|\sin(x)|

Solution

This assignment can only be made when one is familiar with Goniometric functions and Goniometric equations.

This time we do not apply the definition of the absolute value, but just use common sense. We know that \sin(x) is a periodic function and has the following characteristic:

\sin(x)\geq0 if x\in[k\pi, (k+1)\pi], k=0,\pm2,\pm4, ..., see the graph.

For the other values the graph is identical, but they lie below the X-axis. By applying the absolute value the negatieve parts are mirrored in the X-axis. See the result in the graph.
